This is Venice's main basilica, and is one of the most beautiful
that I have ever seen. Not so fancy on the outside, but inside there are
stunning mosaics of Byzantine style artwork, and the church is almost 1000 years
old. Until the last two hundred years, this incredible basilica was the private
church of the doge of Venice (basically the king of Venice). The basilica houses
the remains of Saint Mark which were "stolen" from Egypt about 1200
years ago.
