Alcobaca is where the legendary Dom Pedro is entombed, and this is a photo
of his elaborate tomb. The tomb of his "love" is right next to his. Dom Pedro
was the heir to the Portugese thrown, but had fallen in love with a Spanish
woman with high connections. The king's advisors warned the king about
allowing the Spanish court to have influence over that of Portugal, and at
their request the king (Dom Pedro's father) had her murdered, not knowing
that the two had secretly wed. Two years later, Dom Pedro became king and exacted revenge
by putting her killers to death and supposedly eating their hearts afterwards.
